Amtrak Delivers Strong FY14 Financial Results

On November 25, 2014 Amtrak reported unaudited record revenue totaling approximately $3.2 billion for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2014, representing the fifth consecutive year of revenue growth, and the eighth out of the past nine years.

A rigorous state audit validated Bay Area Rapid Transit's (BART) financial projection process and reaffirmed that BART is facing $9.6 billion in capital needs, potentially affecting the reliability of rail service if additional revenue isn't secured. The audit reports BART has taken recent steps to improve its process for planning capital improvements and has already begun work to secure funding and identify potential future funds.

Final Environmental Impact Statement for Virginia Avenue Tunnel Reconstruction Project Released

The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the District Department of Transportation (DDOT) released the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) for the Virgina Avenue Tunnel today. This identifies the preferred alternative for construction, which allows for progress on this project after a 30 day review period. Amtrak FY15 Budget Request to Congress Seeks Increased Investment in Passenger Rail

On March 18, 2014 Amtrak issued its FY 2015 budget request to Congress. Seeking an increase in federal passenger rail investment, Amtrak warns that continuation of current funding levels leave Northeast Corridor infrastructure vulnerable to a bigger, costlier and far more damaging failure that anything yet seen.

The reasons behind the increased budget request include infrastructure deterioration, changes in business practices, and increased ridership.
